Two-Day Event Features Bharatanatyam, Folk and Bollywood Performances at Sharat Sadan

KOLKATA – Sarsuna Saptarshi Nritya Sikhsha Kendra will present its annual dance festival on December 27-28 at Sharat Sadan Auditorium in Behala, Kolkata.
The festival begins at 5:00 PM both days. It will showcase classical, creative and contemporary dance performances.
Director Prasanta Chatterjee guides the institution. Faculty members include Reshmi Adhikari (Chatterjee), Punam Das, Soumeli Das Panja and Monalisa Bhattacharya.
Chatterjee founded the academy two decades ago. The institution started with a small group. However, it now trains more than 300 students.
The Kolkata-based academy specializes in Bharatanatyam. Moreover, it offers training in creative dance, contemporary, folk and Bollywood styles.
Students will perform six Bharatanatyam pieces. These include Pushpanjali, Ganesh Pancharatnam and New Pushpanjali. In addition, the program features Mushika Angikam Lakshmi, Maya Malava Gowla and Dhanveshi Tillana.
Younger students will present Surya Pranam. Furthermore, they will perform dance-based poetry interpretations. The festival’s special attraction is “Putuler Biye.”
The program includes evergreen Bollywood classics. On the other hand, it maintains strong emphasis on traditional forms. The academy focuses on technical skill and character building.
Students receive regular performance opportunities. These help develop stage presence. Besides, they create meaningful connections with art forms.
The institution emphasizes discipline and creativity. It also cultivates respect for Indian artistic traditions. Students gain holistic dance education encompassing technique, theory and expression.

Similar dance festivals have enriched Kolkata’s cultural landscape throughout 2025. The Naivedya Kathak festival featured 108 artists in November. Meanwhile, the Kathak Marathon presented an 11-hour celebration. In addition, the Trahi Durga festival honored Maa Durga through dance.
