JAMSHEDPUR – A woman was injured late Saturday night after two bikers allegedly snatched her purse near Tinplate Kali Temple in the Golmuri area while she was returning home with her family.
The incident happened around 10.50 p.m. when Anita Sharma was travelling from her parental home in Parsudih. However, two men on a motorcycle came from behind near the temple stretch.
The rider prompted the pillion passenger to grab the purse. The pillion rider then pulled it forcefully. Anita resisted. However, she fell on the road due to the sudden tug.
She suffered serious injuries to her head and body. Meanwhile, her son alerted his father, Kailash Sharma. He stopped the bike quickly and assisted her.
He took her to Tinplate Hospital soon after the incident. Later, he filed a written complaint at Golmuri Police Station. He alleged that the attackers escaped with the purse.
The purse contained Rs 7,000 to Rs 8,000 in cash, one mobile phone, a bank passbook and several documents. However, the snatchers fled immediately with all items.
A few passersby photographed the fleeing motorcycle. However, the bike did not have a number plate. Police initiated an investigation based on the image.
Officials said CCTV cameras in nearby areas are being checked. “The accused will be traced soon,” said a local source familiar with the probe.
Similar incidents have been reported earlier in Jamshedpur. Police had earlier nabbed a biker gang involved in purse snatching. On the other hand, another case saw a suspect detained during a chain snatching attempt in Golmuri.
In addition, an armed group had robbed a trader, as reported earlier. Moreover, police later solved a robbery and arrested a key suspect in a separate case.
Meanwhile, the city police recently enhanced patrolling with high-speed bikes as noted in a patrolling report. However, incidents in Golmuri continue to raise concerns.
