Samvaad 2025 Opens With Tribal Heritage Celebration

JAMSHEDPUR – The 12th edition of Samvaad began celebrating India’s tribal heritage with traditional ceremonies honoring Jharkhand’s statehood anniversary and freedom fighter Birsa Munda’s sesquicentennial.
The opening ceremony commenced with traditional prayers. Munda, Santhal and Oraon communities performed sacred rituals. However, the Ho tribe conducted the akhra purification ceremony next. This ritual symbolizes purity and unity.
Traditional Welcome Ceremony
Tata Steel Foundation supported young athletes welcomed tribal elders. These children had brought national recognition through sports achievements. Moreover, jawa plants were ceremonially presented to community elders. The children unveiled these plants symbolizing growth and prosperity.
Traditional instruments announced the conclave’s inauguration. Baner, sakhua and nagara drums resonated across the venue. On the other hand, this created a dignified atmosphere.
Distinguished Tribal Leaders Present
Several prominent tribal leaders attended the ceremony. Santhal community’s Desha Pargana Baiju Murmu graced the occasion. Besides, Torop Pargana’s Dashmatha Hansda represented his community. Meanwhile, Ho community’s Pir Manki Ganesh Pat Pinguaa participated too.
Bhoomij community’s Pradhan Uttam Singh Sardar joined them. Padma Shri awardees Chami Murmu and Janum Singh Soy enhanced the ceremony’s dignity. In addition, Dr. Narayan Oraon attended as Tolong Siki’s creator. Niyaren Hereng, the pahan, also remained present throughout.
Leadership Addresses Gathering
Tata Steel Foundation’s senior leadership participated actively. T.V. Narendran serves as Foundation Chairman. D.B. Sundara Raman holds the Director position. Furthermore, CEO Sourav Roy addressed the assembly.

Food Stalls Operating Schedule
Food stalls opened at Gopal Maidan at 3 PM. They offer authentic tribal flavors and traditions daily. On the other hand, stalls operate from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Besides, tribal dishes are available on Zomato for orders.
The culinary offerings showcase traditional cooking methods. Each cook brings unique family recipes forward. Moreover, visitors experience diverse tribal food cultures firsthand.
Arts and Crafts Exhibition
Gopal Maidan hosts 51 cultural exhibition outlets. These display 34 unique tribal art styles. However, artisans represent 30 tribes from 18 states. The exhibition features home décor and paintings extensively.
Traditional textiles attract significant visitor attention. Jewelry displays showcase intricate tribal craftsmanship. In addition, various handicrafts highlight India’s rich heritage.
Traditional Medicine Practitioners
Traditional healers from 24 tribes participated this year. They represent communities across 12 different states. Moreover, 30 outlets demonstrate traditional healing practices effectively.
This year’s highlights include lifestyle disease treatments. Chiropractic care features prominently in demonstrations. Besides, infertility treatments use traditional methods. Meanwhile, various other indigenous healing techniques are showcased.
Week-Long Cultural Programme
Samvaad 2025 continues throughout the entire week. Tribal communities from across India gather together. However, artists and healers share knowledge mutually. On the other hand, transformative personalities inspire younger generations.
