SERAIKELA – Police uncovered two bodies in a forest pit after arresting three suspects linked to a couple missing for ten days.
Police in Kharsawan started probing the disappearance of Thakura Sardar and his wife. However, officers soon traced the case to a land feud. Moreover, three men were detained during the inquiry.
In addition, the accused were identified as Lotho Sardar, Gondho Sardar and Bundia Sardar.
Investigators said the trio assaulted the couple with sticks. However, the victims died at the scene.
Afterward, the bodies were buried in a dense forest near their village.
Police retrieved the remains in a decomposed state. Besides, the bodies were sent to Seraikela Sadar Hospital.
However, the hospital lacked postmortem facilities. Therefore, the remains were shifted to Jamshedpur.
A police officer said the accused tried to hide evidence. “They buried the bodies to erase traces,” a source stated.
In addition, the arrests were announced by SP Mukesh Kumar Luniyat during a press briefing.
Two days earlier, police recovered another corpse. Moreover, the body belonged to Guruwari Sardar, an elderly woman.
Officers said she was killed over witchcraft allegations. Furthermore, the killers buried her to conceal the crime.
Police arrested two suspects in that case as well. However, officers have not disclosed further details.
Meanwhile, both incidents occurred in the Seraikela-Kharsawan region.
A brief record of previous cases includes several similar crimes in the district. Relevant reports include fresh protests and a son arrested for a killing.
Other related cases include two arrested in another murder and a case solved after identification.
There was also an unidentified body recovered earlier with bullet wounds.
