JAMSHEDPUR – The festival of lights has brought renewed joy for local potters as residents embrace earthen lamps and clay decorations this Diwali.

Along the Bistupur–Sakchi road near Garam Nala, Jharkhand’s artisans have set up stalls selling handcrafted earthen lamps, clay houses, and decorative items for homes. These items, made from local soil, symbolize purity and traditional craftsmanship.

However, this year’s sales have been notably higher, bringing happiness to the potters who traveled from different parts of Jharkhand to Jamshedpur. They said the demand for handmade clay products has grown significantly.

In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to citizens to purchase indigenous goods such as clay lamps and houses directly from local artisans. Many shoppers in Jamshedpur have responded positively, purchasing from potters to promote self-reliance.

A local buyer shared, “Buying earthen lamps and clay decorations helps our country’s potters. We’re supporting the Prime Minister’s call for ‘Vocal for Local.’”

Meanwhile, children across the city are also showing excitement. They decorate their homes and clay houses bought for Diwali, connecting with traditional Indian values. Older citizens expressed nostalgia, recalling how they once made clay houses themselves during Diwali celebrations.

One elderly shopper remarked, “Seeing these clay houses reminds us of our childhood. By using Indian-made goods, we honor our traditions and our soil.”

The vibrant stalls, the earthy fragrance of wet clay, and the spirit of self-reliance together define this year’s celebration of Diwali in Jamshedpur.
