SERAIKELA – Displaced Kalindi families began a peaceful protest on Monday outside the Amalgam Steel and Power Limited gate in Kandra, demanding permanent jobs promised during the 2003 land acquisition.

According to protest leader Govinda Kalindi, the agreement ensured five jobs per family, yet only three were provided. However, two positions remain pending even after multiple appeals. The families submitted a written petition to the district administration on August 19, 2025, and met the company’s general manager on August 27, who had promised a resolution.

Meanwhile, the protesters alleged that on September 9, HR officer R. N. Prasad publicly threatened to kill them. They have submitted written witness statements to the district administration supporting this claim. On the other hand, the company, according to the families, has repeatedly deferred the issue, saying, “We’ll see, it will be done.”

Besides, the families had informed the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and Sub-Divisional Officer about their planned peaceful protest on October 6, seeking protection and intervention. The Amalgam Steel gate remained closed for hours during the demonstration.

Protesters displayed banners reading, “Follow the 2003 Agreement” and “Provide Jobs to Displaced Families.” The police were present to maintain peace. “We will not step back until all pending jobs are given,” said Govinda Kalindi. However, the company has not issued any official statement as of the time of writing.
