JAMSHEDPUR – A fierce encounter broke out on Sunday morning between security forces and Naxals in the Rellaperal forest of West Singhbhum district.
According to officials, Cobra commandos were carrying out a search operation in the Naxal-affected area when, around 6:30 a.m., Naxal operatives opened fire. Security personnel retaliated, leading to a heavy exchange of gunfire.
During the encounter, Cobra forces shot dead a Naxal zonal commander identified as Amit Hansda, also known as Upton. Hansda carried a reward of ₹10 lakh on his head. After the operation, security personnel recovered a weapon from the site.
Forces have cordoned off the area and are continuing search operations. Officials confirmed that the operation was intensified following intelligence inputs about Naxal presence. Authorities expect the action to impact Naxal morale in the region.
