Workers Protest at DC Office Against Company Officials

Labor Unions Allege Fraud in Full and Final Settlements

Key Points:

  • 43 workers protest over settlement and overtime non-payment
  • Two Company Officials accused of exploitation
  • Union demands inquiry and reinstatement of worker Deepak Pradhan

JAMSHEDPUR – Forty-three workers staged a protest at the Deputy Commissioner’s office against alleged fraud and exploitation by two Tata Steel officials named by them.

The case concerns laborers employed at the New Bar Mill under Vivek Construction. According to unions, Tata Steel officials named by them allegedly manipulated payments and withheld dues.

Workers claimed that after 4 years and 4 months of service, they received only ₹15,000–17,000 as full and final settlement. However, contractor cell reports suggested each worker was entitled to more than ₹65,000.

Moreover, thousands of overtime hours over 4.5 years, payable at double rates, remain pending. Protesters further alleged that those demanding dues face blocked gate passes. Recently, worker Deepak Pradhan’s pass was stopped, barring him from work.

The demonstration was led by Johar Jharkhand Shramik Mahasangh and Youth INTUC. Union leader Rajeev Pandey headed a delegation that met the Deputy Commissioner and submitted a memorandum.

The demands included:

  1. Complete full and final settlement with notice pay.
  2. Immediate payment of 4.5 years’ overtime.
  3. Fair probe and action against officials and named construction company.
  4. Restoration of Deepak Pradhan’s gate pass and his return to duty.

The unions warned of intensified agitation if justice is not delivered.
