JAMSHEDPUR – India’s Umesh Vikram Kumar has reached the top world ranking in men’s singles para badminton.
World No. 1 Milestone
Kumar secured the No. 1 spot on September 2, 2025. This update was confirmed in the latest BWF Para Badminton World Rankings.
Medal Performances in 2025
His results this year include:
- Gold in men’s singles at Egypt Para Badminton Championship
- Silver in men’s doubles at Egypt and Spain events
- Two silvers in Dubai across singles and doubles
- Bronze in singles and doubles at Bahrain Championship
- Bronze in singles at Asian Para Badminton Championship
However, the medal run did not stop there. He won silver in singles at the British & Irish Para International in July. Moreover, he secured bronze in singles at the Peru Para Badminton International in August.
Past Achievements
In earlier years, Kumar also earned two bronzes in men’s doubles. These came at the BWF Para Badminton World Championships.
Tata Steel’s Contribution
Meanwhile, Kumar highlighted Tata Steel’s facilities. “The training courts, staff, and recovery support have been important for me,” he said.
The Tata Steel Badminton Training Centre has six wooden courts with pro lighting. In addition, it provides strength training, physiotherapy, rehabilitation services, and nutrition support.

Kumar’s ranking adds to India’s growing success in international para badminton. His medal record has placed India prominently in the global circuit.
