DUMKA – Police in Dumka solved the brutal murder of an elderly couple in Chorkatta village by arresting their younger son-in-law.
The killings took place in the Mufassil police station area. Superintendent of Police Pitambar Singh Kherwar confirmed the arrest on Sunday. He identified the accused as Subal alias Bhulu Saha, a resident of Birbhum district in West Bengal.
According to officials, the victims were Nav Gopal Saha and his wife Vibhu Saha. They had one son and two daughters. In earlier years, Subal supported them financially. However, after Nav Gopal sold land and distributed cash to his elder daughter and son-in-law, the younger son-in-law felt excluded.
On Monday, Nav Gopal’s son left for his in-laws’ home with his wife. The elderly couple remained alone. Subal knew about this. He visited his in-laws, asked for money, but was refused. He stayed overnight.
Later that night, when Vibhu went to the washroom, Subal attacked Nav Gopal. He hit him with a brick and a wooden plank. Vibhu returned and witnessed the assault. The accused then killed her as well. He fled with ornaments and other belongings.
Police recovered the deceased man’s mobile, a gold chain, a gold ring, and four gold nosepins from the accused. His bloodstained T-shirt was also seized. The arrested man confessed to the crime during questioning.
