Supreme Court Dismisses Plea Against Jharkhand DGP Appointment

Apex Court Rejects Babulal Marandi’s Contempt Petition

Key Points:

  • Supreme Court upholds appointment of DGP Anurag Gupta
  • Babulal Marandi’s contempt plea dismissed by three-judge bench
  • Relief granted to Jharkhand DGP after challenge rejected

JAMSHEDPUR – The Supreme Court bench dismissed a plea filed by Jharkhand opposition leader Babulal Marandi challenging the appointment of the state’s Director General of Police, Anurag Gupta.

The case was heard by a bench consisting of Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, Justice K. Vinod Chandran, and Justice N.V. Anjaria. They rejected the contempt petition submitted by Marandi, who is also the state BJP president.

According to the petition, the DGP’s appointment needed scrutiny. However, the court did not find merit in the arguments. Consequently, the challenge was set aside, providing major relief to Gupta.

Meanwhile, the order marked an important development in the state’s political and administrative framework. A source familiar with the matter said, “The court’s ruling has brought clarity on the position of the DGP.”

This decision comes at a time when Jharkhand politics is witnessing strong confrontations between the ruling side and the opposition. The apex court’s intervention has now settled the issue related to the police chief’s appointment.
