Forest Department Uses Drones to Plant Five Lakh Bamboo Saplings

Seed Balls Dropped on Mountain Plateaus to Provide Elephant Food

Key Points:

  • Drone technology plants bamboo in inaccessible mountain terrain areas
  • Five lakh seed balls target entire Dalma range for plantation
  • Initiative aims to keep elephant herds within forest boundaries

JAMSHEDPUR – Forest Department launched innovative drone-based plantation drive to plant five lakh bamboo saplings across Dalma range using seed ball technology.

The department initiated unique plantation method recently. Drones carry seed balls to mountain plateau areas. However, these locations remain inaccessible to human reach.

Kolhan range DFO Sabba Alam announced the ambitious target. Five lakh bamboo saplings will be planted through seed balls. Moreover, drone technology enables plantation in remote areas.

The seed ball spraying operation began today. Kerua hill in Patamda received the first deployment. Furthermore, similar operations will continue across Dalma range.

The initiative serves specific wildlife management purposes. Elephants will receive adequate food within forest boundaries. Meanwhile, this strategy prevents herds from entering city areas.

Ranger Digvijay Singh appealed to village residents. He requested community participation in plantation activities. However, forest department simultaneously increases plantation in forest areas.

“Adequate elephant food should remain within forest boundaries,” Singh explained. Community plantation efforts will enhance city’s green cover. Moreover, collective efforts strengthen environmental protection measures.

The seed ball method offers multiple advantages. Remote mountain areas become accessible through drone technology. Furthermore, bamboo provides nutritious elephant fodder throughout seasons.

Forest officials expect significant wildlife behavior changes. Elephant herds will find sufficient food within designated areas. Meanwhile, human-elephant conflict incidents may decrease substantially.

The Dalma range covers extensive mountainous terrain. Traditional plantation methods face accessibility challenges. However, drone technology overcomes geographical limitations effectively.

Department officials monitor plantation progress regularly. Seed ball germination rates determine success levels. Moreover, weather conditions influence sprouting outcomes significantly.

Village cooperation remains essential for comprehensive success. Community awareness programs accompany the technical initiative. Furthermore, local participation ensures long-term sustainability goals.
