JAMSHEDPUR – A parking crackdown by SDM Shatabdi Majumdar near Jubilee Park led to significant tension on Wednesday after vehicles belonging to BJP leaders were targeted. The SDM, addressing recurring traffic jams in the area, ordered the deflation of tires on vehicles parked in no-parking zones, sparking outrage from the BJP and others.
Incident Sparks Protest
The incident unfolded when BJP leaders, including District President Sudhanshu Ojha, were attending a party membership drive and meeting at the district office near the area. SDM Majumdar’s team deflated the tires of vehicles parked outside the office, leading to a heated confrontation between BJP leaders and the SDM. Witnesses reported the SDM leaving the scene amidst escalating tension.
BJP’s Response
BJP District President Sudhanshu Ojha criticized the SDM’s approach, stating, “Imposing fines for parking violations is justified, but deflating tires is not a solution. This creates unnecessary risks and inconveniences.” Ojha also alleged that such actions could jeopardize the safety of party members and leaders.
Public Reactions
Several residents also voiced their concerns, questioning the SDM’s methods. “If a vehicle is in a no-parking zone, impose a fine, but deflating tires is excessive and unjustified,” a local resident remarked.
Threat of Agitation
The BJP has announced plans to organize an agitation if such actions persist. “The district administration should focus on addressing serious crimes instead of creating issues over minor parking violations,” Ojha added.
