JAMSHEDPUR – Protesting against the waste crisis, Congress workers held a symbolic demonstration at Mango Municipal Corporation near the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial.
The protest began with paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi before addressing the ongoing garbage crisis. The area has seen no waste collection for 15 days, creating mounting piles of trash at various locations. Nitesh Mittal stated, “The inaction has led to potential health hazards, with garbage rotting in public spaces.”
Growing Crisis in Mango
Local residents are experiencing severe discomfort due to stagnant garbage. Mittal emphasized the health risks, stating that conditions are ripe for an outbreak of diseases. Despite the National Green Tribunal’s involvement, the crisis persists without any municipal intervention. A severe garbage crisis in Mango has already drawn significant public ire, reflecting deeper civic issues.
Congress Raises Questions on Intentions
Congress activists alleged that local legislators are misleading the public. During the protest, workers witnessed a sudden attempt to spray bleaching powder, which they criticized as a superficial effort to appease public dissatisfaction. The delay in municipal elections has compounded governance challenges in the area.
Ultimatum Issued to Authorities
Guddu Singh, a prominent figure in the protest, warned, “If garbage collection and disposal are not resumed within 48 hours, Mango residents will enforce a complete blockade of the municipal office. Accountability will lie with the municipality and local MLA.”
Legacy of Former Leadership
Pappu Singh Ujjain reflected on former MLA Banna Gupta’s vision of a clean and beautiful Mango. “Today, we see a stark contrast—garbage-filled streets and unbearable odors. The public will not tolerate this negligence,” he asserted.
Participation from All Sectors
Prominent participants included Ajay Mishra, Akhilesh Singh, Sanjay Tiwari, and several others. They stood united, demanding immediate action to resolve the crisis. For additional context on local civic movements in Jamshedpur, similar challenges have arisen across the region, highlighting systemic waste management issues.
