Forest Teams Failed to Tranquilize ‘Zeenat’ After Buffalo Attack
Key Points:

- Joint rescue operation by Jharkhand and Odisha forest teams continues
- Radio-collared tigress traveled 35 km from Simlipal Reserve
JAMSHEDPUR – A curfew-like situation prevails in Chakulia block villages as authorities struggle to capture ‘Zeenat’, a tigress that strayed from Odisha’s Simlipal Tiger Reserve.
The administration imposed restrictions in affected areas. Schools remain closed since December 11.
“Public safety is our primary concern,” noted a district official.
Rescue Attempts
Forest teams attempted tranquilization. A buffalo was used as bait.
Meanwhile, the hungry tigress attacked the bait. However, the tranquilizer dart missed its target.
“We’re monitoring her movements continuously,” explained a forest officer.
Background Story
Zeenat arrived from Maharashtra’s Tadoba Reserve. She was relocated to Simlipal in November.
Moreover, GPS tracking shows her 35-kilometer journey. She crossed multiple forest areas.
“Interstate coordination continues for safe rescue,” remarked a wildlife expert.
