Theft at Anganwadi Center and School Sparks Safety Concerns

50 Kg Rice, 250 Kg Lentils Stolen; Vandals Cooked Inside Centers

Key Points:

  • Thieves targeted an Anganwadi center and a school in Jamshedpur.
  • Over 300 kg of food was stolen; cooking incidents reported.
  • Authorities are investigating links to substance abusers.

JAMSHEDPUR – Thefts at a local Anganwadi center and a school in Jamshedpur have raised safety alarms after thieves not only stole food supplies but also cooked inside the premises.

A break-in at the Anganwadi center in Govindpur village, Daladali Panchayat, was discovered on Thursday morning by worker Renuka Mahato. Around 50 kg of rice and 250 kg of lentils were stolen during the Wednesday night incident. The worker informed MGM police immediately.

Meanwhile, a similar theft occurred at the Itamado Primary School, where the kitchen lock was broken. According to teacher Rajeev Kumar, the thieves used the school’s gas stove to prepare tea and left the gas cylinder regulator open, which could have caused a major accident.

Authorities suspect the involvement of substance abusers in both cases, as signs of cooking and reckless behavior, such as frying eggs in the Anganwadi center, were observed. The MGM police are actively investigating both incidents.

Instances of cooking at crime scenes are unusual but not unprecedented, according to experts. Theft of food and gas supplies indicates potential links to desperation or drug habits. Security measures in community centers are now being scrutinized following these events.
