Congress Faces Major Setback in Jharkhand as MP Geeta Koda Joins BJP

Geeta Koda’s Switch to BJP Ahead of Elections Shakes Jharkhand Political Landscape

In a significant political development, Congress has experienced a considerable setback in Jharkhand, with its sole MP in the state, Geeta Koda, defecting to the BJP. Koda, who represented the Singhbhum constituency for Congress, officially became a member of the BJP in Ranchi, marking a pivotal shift in the state’s political dynamics, particularly in the Kolhan region.

RANCHI – The political scene in Jharkhand has been rattled by the news of Congress MP Geeta Koda joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Her move to the BJP, especially ahead of the elections, is seen as a significant victory for the party in the Kolhan region.

Geeta Koda’s popularity in her constituency makes her a valuable asset for the BJP, potentially boosting the party’s prospects if she is nominated to contest from the Chaibasa seat.

Her departure from Congress stems from a long-standing dissatisfaction with how she was treated within the party, despite her role as the state working president.

Political Trajectory

Koda’s political journey began with her election as an MLA in 2009, defeating a BJP candidate in Jagannathpur.

She made her first foray into Lok Sabha elections in 2014 but was unsuccessful.

However, in 2019, she emerged victorious as the only Congress candidate in Jharkhand to win a seat in the Lok Sabha.

Joining Congress in 2018, her political career has been marked by significant achievements and a commitment to her constituents.

A Personal Journey into Politics

Geeta Koda, the wife of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, has been a significant figure in Jharkhand politics since her entry following her husband’s incarceration.

Her background and personal journey from Meghatuburu to the halls of the Lok Sabha underscore her resilience and political acumen.
