Jamshedpur Congress Seeks FIR against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

East Singhbhum Congress Submits Written Application at Sakchi Police Station

Key Points:

  • Congress demands FIR against Assam CM over remarks on Rahul Gandhi, Pawan Khera
  • Video, audio clips and social media screenshots submitted as evidence to police
  • Party warns remarks damage democratic values and spread social tension

JAMSHEDPUR – The East Singhbhum District Congress Committee marched to Sakchi police station on Saturday and submitted a written application demanding registration of an FIR against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his remarks targeting senior Congress leaders.

The application was submitted under the leadership of district president Parvinder Singh. It alleged that the Assam chief minister had made objectionable, defamatory and indecorous statements against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera. These remarks, the application said, were made through public platforms, news media and social media channels.

The district Congress committee contended that such statements caused serious damage to the social and political reputation of the leaders concerned. Moreover, it said the remarks were contrary to democratic values and the norms of political conduct. The party further alleged that such statements sent a wrong message to society. In addition, it said they were calculated to spread tension and animosity among the people.

In support of its complaint, the Congress committee submitted video and audio recordings, media reports and screenshots of social media posts as documentary evidence to the police. The committee urged the Sakchi police to take cognisance of the matter and register an FIR and take lawful action without delay.

Himanta Biswa Sarma has been a frequent and vocal critic of Rahul Gandhi on public platforms. His statements have on several previous occasions drawn sharp reactions from the Congress party at the national level. The demand for an FIR in Jamshedpur is part of a broader pattern of Congress protests across the country against the Assam chief minister’s remarks. Meanwhile, the Sakchi police had not officially responded to the application at the time of filing this report.
