Restaurants, lodges, and halls for 200+ people must install compost machines.
-
Shops and street vendors mandated to place dustbins at their premises.
-
Crackdown on single-use plastic in Jamshedpur to resume from December 2.
Jamshedpur – Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has mandated compost machines for large-scale waste management and launched measures to enhance the city’s cleanliness and waste management.
Compost Machines Now Compulsory
Krishna Kumar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of JNAC, emphasized that restaurants, hotels, lodges, and banquet halls with a capacity of 200 or more must handle wet waste independently using compost machines. Facilities generating over 100 kilograms of wet waste for more than 15 days in a month must install the machines.
Non-compliance will attract penalties under the Solid Waste Management Act. JNAC plans rigorous campaigns to enforce the directive, Kumar stated during an exclusive interaction with Prabhat Khabar.
Dustbins Outside Shops Essential
To bolster the city’s Swachh Survekshan ranking, all shopkeepers are now required to place dustbins outside their establishments. Kumar explained that without individual dustbins, litter control becomes challenging. Vendors operating on footpaths and pushcarts are also obligated to maintain dustbins.
"Community participation is key to achieving a cleaner city," Kumar added, urging citizens to support the cleanliness drive.
Renewed Crackdown on Plastic Usage
The JNAC will intensify its campaign against single-use plastic from December 2. Despite existing bans, its use persists in various areas. Previously, penalties and confiscations were enforced during similar drives. The upcoming campaign aims to reinforce compliance and curb plastic pollution effectively.
