Neighbor and occult practitioner held for gruesome killing of health worker.

Key Points:

  • Health worker Anju Devi murdered in Palamu’s Tarhasi area on November 24.

  • Neighbor Chandan Kumar and occultist Malti Devi arrested for the crime.

  • Police reveal superstition drove the suspects to plan and execute the murder.

MEDININAGAR – In a chilling case of superstition-fueled crime, police in Palamu’s Tarhasi area have solved the murder of health worker Anju Devi. Neighbor Chandan Kumar and occult practitioner Malti Devi have been arrested in connection with the case.

Anju Devi was found dead on November 24 in Parpaine village, her throat slit with a sharp iron weapon. Investigators used a sniffer dog, which led them to the residence of neighbor Chandan Kumar. Tarhasi Station Officer Neeraj Kumar confirmed Chandan’s arrest, which then led to Malti Devi’s apprehension.

Superstition Behind the Crime

Police investigations revealed that Chandan sought Malti’s guidance after facing financial losses when a goat died in an accident involving his vehicle in late October. Malti allegedly convinced him that Anju Devi was the cause of his troubles.

Chandan confessed to planning Anju’s murder based on Malti’s claims. On the night of November 24, he entered her home intending to strangle her. When interrupted by Anju’s sister-in-law, he used a vegetable-cutting tool to kill her.

Four Years of Occult Practices

Malti Devi has reportedly been practicing occultism for four years. Both suspects have been sent to judicial custody. "This is a case of superstition leading to a heinous crime," stated Station Officer Neeraj Kumar.

Such incidents highlight the deep-rooted challenges posed by superstitious beliefs in rural communities. Police continue their efforts to combat such practices through awareness campaigns.
