MEDININAGAR – A gruesome incident unfolded in Ursula village under Rehla police station, Palamu, where a man and his relatives brutally beat his 20-year-old nephew to death over a witchcraft dispute.
The victim, Yogendra Paswan, was attacked on Sunday evening while returning home after planting potatoes.
The attackers, led by the victim’s uncle Radheshyam Paswan, accused Yogendra’s mother, Renu Devi, of practicing witchcraft.
The long-standing tension between the families erupted into violence when Radheshyam, his family members, and relatives confronted Yogendra and began assaulting him.
When his parents, Guddu Paswan and Renu Devi, tried to intervene, they were also attacked with sticks, sustaining injuries.
Villagers rushed the critically injured Yogendra and his parents to Vishrampur Community Health Center.
After primary treatment, Yogendra was referred to MMCH Medininagar, where he succumbed to his injuries late at night.
An FIR has been registered against seven individuals, including Radheshyam Paswan, his wife Soni Devi, son Lavkush Paswan, daughter Babita Devi, son-in-law Mukesh Paswan, and another relative, Tun Tun Kumar.
Rehla Station In-Charge Santosh Kumar confirmed that police have begun action based on statements from the victim’s family.
No arrests have been made so far, and police are conducting raids to apprehend the accused.
The incident has left the village in shock and mourning, while the victim’s family is inconsolable.
