Key Points:
• Tata Steel receives worldsteel Safety and Health Excellence Recognition 2024
• Company’s online purging assistance model praised for enhancing safety
• Only Indian steel producer among six global winners this year
JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel has secured the World Steel Association’s Safety and Health Excellence Recognition 2024 for its innovative online purging assistance model.
The model significantly reduces explosion risks in blast furnace gas cleaning plants.
Tata Steel stands as the sole Indian recipient among six global steel producers honored this year.
Moreover, the recognition highlights the company’s commitment to employee and stakeholder safety.
Rajiv Mangal, Vice President of Safety, Health & Sustainability at Tata Steel, expressed delight at the achievement.
He emphasized the company’s dedication to building a ‘zero harm’ work environment.
Furthermore, the new purging assistance model utilizes remote-operated valves and gas analyzers for real-time monitoring.
This system allows operators to manage the entire gas line purging process from a control room.
Consequently, the model eliminates risks associated with conventional manual purging tasks.
On the other hand, it has led to significant improvements in plant operations and safety.
The innovative approach has resulted in zero high-potential risk incidents due to insufficient purging.
Additionally, it has achieved a 50% reduction in purging time and ensures 100% safe plant shutdowns and startups.
Tata Steel’s commitment to safety extends beyond this recognition, as evidenced by its Process Safety School of Excellence.
This initiative aims to enhance process safety competency across all company locations.
