Jharkhand Boosts Women’s Aid to Rs 2,500 Monthly, Tops BJP Offer

Cabinet approves increase from Rs 1,000 under Maiyan Samman Yojana

Key Points:

• Monthly aid for women raised to Rs 2,500, totaling Rs 30,000 annually

• 50 lakh beneficiaries to receive enhanced assistance from December 2024

• Move counters BJP’s Gogo Didi Yojana promise of Rs 2,100 per month

RANCHI – The Jharkhand government has significantly increased financial support for women, outpacing a recent opposition promise.

The state cabinet approved raising the monthly aid from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500.

This decision enhances the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojana (JMMSY).

"The new scheme will benefit 50 lakh women from December 2024," stated Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel.

The move will incur an additional Rs 9,000 crore burden on the state exchequer.

Meanwhile, this announcement counters BJP’s proposed Gogo Didi Yojana.

The opposition had promised Rs 2,100 monthly if voted to power.

In addition, the cabinet approved several other significant measures.

Funds were allocated for scientific exhibitions in eight district science centers.

NET-qualified teachers in Ranchi University will receive class-based appointments.

Moreover, 60,000 para-teachers will now have access to Employee Provident Fund.

"This decision significantly improves job security for educators," an education official noted.

The cabinet also greenlighted a new degree college in Thakurganti, Godda.

Amendments to the Guruji Credit Card Guidelines were approved.

Rs 214 crore was sanctioned for Jamshedpur’s Government Engineering College building.

A committee under the Tribal Welfare Minister will address issues of Jharkhand tribals in Assam’s tea gardens.

"About 15 lakh tribals from Jharkhand work in Assam," a government source mentioned.

These decisions reflect the government’s focus on education and tribal welfare.

The enhanced women’s aid scheme is expected to impact the upcoming electoral landscape.

Political analysts view this as a strategic move to counter opposition promises.
