Post-exam traffic snarls plague city, delay emergency services

After the conclusion of the 11th Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Preliminary Competition in Jamshedpur, the city witnessed severe traffic congestion, significantly impacting residents and emergency services.

JAMSHEDPUR – Following the 11th Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Preliminary Competition, Jamshedpur experienced widespread traffic congestion, causing delays for ambulances and police vehicles.

The traffic jam, lasting over two hours on Mango Dimna Road, highlights the city’s vulnerability to sudden vehicle influxes, with the road from Mango to Sakchi completely blocked.

The examination day saw a significantly lower turnout than expected, with approximately 47% of candidates absent.

This ongoing issue of absenteeism echoes recent trends, including a 73% no-show rate at a JSSC examination, which was later cancelled. Despite peaceful conduct and no reported irregularities, the examination centers faced logistical issues, including lax security checks during the first shift that were corrected in subsequent sessions.

Two key examination areas were the General Studies Paper 1, focusing on national and global topics, and Paper 2, concentrating on Jharkhand-specific issues, including the CNT Act and tribal rights. Candidates were scrutinized more thoroughly in the second shift, following oversights in the initial session.

Traffic issues were not limited to examination-related congestion. Daily jams on Mango-Dimna Road and the Mango Bridge are common, exacerbated by the mass exit of candidates from examination centers.

Efforts to manage the flow on routes like Bistupur to Jusco roundabout and Sakchi roundabout to Kalimati road were visible, with traffic police actively trying to alleviate congestion.

Despite these challenges, the city’s traffic woes continue, with regular jams near employment hubs and key intersections. The absence of law enforcement in critical areas during peak congestion times further complicates traffic management efforts, leaving residents and emergency services stranded.

The preliminary competition brought to light logistical gaps, particularly in security procedures, which were promptly addressed in later sessions.
