Durga Puja Electricity Rates Rise in Jamshedpur and Kolhan

Committees face 35 paise per unit increase for festive connections

JAMSHEDPUR – Durga Puja committees in Jamshedpur and Kolhan face higher electricity costs this year due to a rate increase.

The electricity tariff has risen by 35 paise per unit in non-company areas.

Moreover, the new rate stands at ₹6.65 per unit, up from last year’s ₹6.30.

Puja committees must now pay various fees for their electrical connections.

On the other hand, these include a ₹100 application fee and a ₹512 service connection fee.

Additionally, daily energy charges will be based on per-kilowatt electricity consumption.

Furthermore, all connections are required to be metered this year.

Electricity GM Ajit Kumar has issued directives to ensure safety during the festivities.

Meanwhile, executive engineers across seven divisions have been instructed to hire skilled workers.

These workers will be responsible for setting up safe electrical connections in pandals.

In addition, a control room will operate from Panchami to Dashami for monitoring purposes.

However, special safety measures will be implemented on Dashami, the final day of celebrations.

Electricity supply will be halted from noon to midnight on Dashami.

Consequently, power will resume only after officials confirm the safe conclusion of festivities.

The affected areas include Jamshedpur, Mango, Ghatshila, Adityapur, Seraikela, Chakradharpur, and Chaibasa.

The increased rates and safety measures aim to ensure a secure festive season.

Puja committees are advised to budget for the higher electricity costs this year.
