Tata Steel hosts East Zone Climbing Championship 2024
150 athletes to compete in lead, speed, and bouldering events.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) has kicked off the IMF East Zone Sport Climbing Championship 2024 at the TSAF Sport Climbing Academy, housed within the JRD Tata Sports Complex.
The championship will be held from September 26 to 29, 2024.
More than 150 athletes from Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha are participating.
Competitors will showcase their skills in lead, speed, and bouldering events across various categories, including sub-junior, junior, and open divisions.
The opening ceremony was held on September 27 at 4 PM, attended by dignitaries such as Manik Banerjee, Chairman of the National Sport Climbing Championship, Debraj Dutta, Chairman of IMF East Zone, and Akash, Area Manager of Sports Academies at Tata Steel.

The highlight of the first day was the lead competition, where TSAF athletes dominated.
Ronit Bandra claimed gold in the men’s lead event, while Talim Ansari and Mukesh Karwa secured silver and bronze, respectively.
In the women’s category, Joga Purty took home the gold, with Aastha Rani Bhuiyan and Kiran Singh Thakur following closely behind.
In the junior girls’ bouldering event, Muskan Bandra grabbed gold, while Nandini Singh and Savitri Samad took silver and bronze, respectively.
Mukul Vinayak Chaudhari, Chief Sports Tata Steel, presided over the Day 1 prize distribution ceremony, congratulating the winners.
TSAF organizers expressed excitement about the level of competition, with Akash stating, “The enthusiasm and talent displayed by the participants set a high bar for the remainder of the championship.”
Participants will compete in speed and bouldering events in the coming days, with more athletes vying for top honors.
