Students Protest New Uniform Policy at Jamshedpur Women’s University

Mandatory dress code sparks concerns over costs and vendor restrictions

Jamshedpur Women’s University’s new uniform mandate raises questions about student financial burdens and procurement flexibility.

JAMSHEDPUR – The recent expansion of the uniform policy at Jamshedpur Women’s University has ignited a debate among students regarding costs and vendor restrictions.

The university has implemented a comprehensive dress code system, covering all academic programs from undergraduate to postgraduate levels.

A second-year student, speaking on condition of anonymity, shared her concerns: "The sudden change in policy has caught us off guard. We’re now required to purchase uniforms from a specific vendor at higher prices, which is straining our budgets."

On the Bistupur campus, university officials have set up a measurement booth where students must register and pay for their uniforms.

Key Issues Highlighted by Students:

  1. Mandatory purchase from designated tailor

  2. Increased uniform costs

  3. Campus entry restrictions based on uniform receipts

  4. Limited flexibility in uniform sourcing

  5. Lack of prior notification about on-campus measurements

The university administration has yet to address these concerns publicly.

As the controversy unfolds, students are calling for a review of the policy, hoping for a more balanced approach that considers their financial constraints while maintaining dress code standards.
