Icha Kharkai Dam Opponents Stage Protest in Tiring, Hold Mock Funeral for CM and Ministers.
In a dramatic protest against the Icha Kharkai Dam project, the Icha Kharkai Dam Virodhi Sangh staged a mock funeral for Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and other leaders in Kolhan.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Icha Kharkai Dam Virodhi Sangh, a group opposing the Icha Kharkai Dam project, held a mock funeral for Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Chaibasa MLA and Transport Minister Deepak Birua, Seraikela MLA and former CM Champai Soren, and Majhgaon MLA Niral Purty in the village of Murada in Tiring block on Sunday.
The event was marked by strong anti-government slogans and fierce opposition against the leaders.
Addressing the gathering, the association’s president, Veer Singh Budiuli, declared that this mock funeral is just the beginning of widespread protests across the Kolhan region, with similar events planned throughout the area.
Budiuli accused the Hemant Soren government of exploiting the indigenous tribal population as a mere vote bank and warned that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) would be held accountable for this exploitation.
He shared details related to the Icha Dam movement and called on the villagers to unite and intensify their joint struggle against the project.
Budiuli also criticized the JMM’s Struggle and Change Yatra, accusing the party of deceiving the people of Kolhan.
He stated that the Hemant Soren government has betrayed the 87 villages affected by the dam project by not canceling it and has used it solely for political gain.
