Missing Jharkhand Boy Rescued After 10 Years of Trafficking

Government intervention leads to rescue of minor from Sahibganj, CM Hemant Soren’s constituency

A minor trafficking victim from Barhait, Sahibganj, has been rescued after a decade-long ordeal, thanks to Jharkhand government’s active intervention.

RANCHI – A boy from Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s home constituency in Sahibganj, missing for 10 years, has been rescued from human traffickers through coordinated efforts.

The Integrated Rehabilitation cum Resource Center in New Delhi, run by the Department of Women and Child Development, spearheaded the rescue operation.

Local NGOs provided crucial support during operations conducted in Haryana and Delhi.

The victim, approximately 23 years old now, was trafficked to Delhi at the age of 13.

For a decade, the boy had no contact with his family, despite his father’s prolonged search efforts.

A complaint was lodged at Barhait police station in Sahibganj district, but years of police investigation yielded no results.

Jharkhand Bhawan in New Delhi was alerted about the case five days prior to the rescue.

Nachiketa, the nodal officer of the integrated rehabilitation and resource centre, formed a team to investigate.

The rescue team, posing as passengers, traced a travel agency using a mobile number provided by the child’s father.

"The owner of the agency told that he had employed the child," stated the government communique.

Further investigation led the team to raid residences in Panipat, Haryana, and New Delhi.

During the Delhi raid, another 17-year-old boy from Jharkhand was found and rescued from forced labor.

Under mounting pressure, the employer finally sent the long-missing boy back to his family in Jharkhand on Monday.

The Resident Commissioner of Jharkhand Bhawan oversaw the entire rescue operation.
