Transport Dept Cracks Down on Unsafe School Vehicles

Statewide inspection campaign launched to ensure compliance with safety norms

The Transport Department is intensifying scrutiny of school vehicles following safety concerns raised across the state.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Transport Department has initiated a statewide campaign to inspect school vehicles, responding to safety concerns and compliance issues.

Joint Transport Commissioner has directed all DTOs and MVIs to enforce vehicle safety regulations.

The crackdown targets school vehicles operating without valid fitness, insurance, or pollution certificates.

Complaints have highlighted the use of Maruti Vans, Tata Magic, and Auto Rickshaws as unsafe school transport.

Many of these vehicles, despite parental consent, fail to meet safety standards and violate Motor Vehicle Rules.

The department plans to cancel registrations of vehicles lacking proper documentation or fitness certificates.

Overloaded vehicles will face penalties under the new enforcement drive.

Vehicles without insurance risk having their registration revoked.

This initiative aims to enhance the safety of schoolchildren during their daily commute.

The campaign seeks to ensure all school vehicles adhere to legal requirements and safety norms.

East Singhbhum’s transport officials are included in this statewide directive.

Parents are urged to be vigilant about the safety standards of their children’s school transportation.

School administrations may need to reassess their transport arrangements in light of this crackdown.

The move is expected to significantly impact informal school transport providers operating outside regulations.

Authorities emphasize that safety cannot be compromised, even with parental consent for substandard vehicles.
