JAMSHEDPUR – A 24-year-old woman was found dead after hanging herself from a tree in Kumardungi, with police investigating the cause.

The incident occurred in Kusumbe village under Kumardungi police station limits. The deceased was identified as Sumitra Barjo.

She was the daughter of Lakhan Barjo. Meanwhile, she was reportedly 24 years old and unmarried.

According to family members, she had dinner on Sunday night. After that, she went to her room to sleep.

However, later in the night, she quietly left the house. Moreover, she walked some distance away from the village.

She then used a scarf to hang herself. The incident took place on a tamarind tree.

On Monday morning, her mother went towards the fields. Meanwhile, she suddenly noticed her daughter hanging.

The mother raised an alarm immediately. Soon after, villagers gathered at the spot.

The village head was informed about the incident. Subsequently, the police were alerted.

Police reached the location soon after. Moreover, they took the body into custody.

The body was later sent for postmortem. This was done at the sadar hospital.

Lakhan Barjo stated that the reason remains unknown. In contrast, he said no one knows why she took the step.

He also confirmed that she was unmarried. Meanwhile, no prior issues were reported by the family.

Police officials have started an investigation. Further details are awaited as the inquiry continues in Chaibasa region.

Cases of suicide in rural areas often remain unexplained. However, authorities usually examine family and social factors.

Officials said they will record statements of family members. Meanwhile, they will also verify any possible triggers.
