Administration monitors Kharkai and Swarnrekha rivers as water release scheduled for Sunday

The release of 3500 cusecs of water from Chandil dam into the Swarnrekha river is expected to cause a rapid increase in water levels.

JAMSHEDPUR – Local authorities are on high alert as Chandil dam prepares to release 3500 cusecs of water into the Swarnrekha river on Sunday morning at 8 AM.

As of Saturday evening, the water levels in both Kharkai and Swarnrekha rivers have remained stable.

However, this situation is likely to change rapidly following the scheduled water release.

The administration is closely monitoring the water levels of both rivers, according to an update received at 9 PM on Saturday.

Officials have issued an appeal to the public, urging them to avoid coastal and flood-prone areas near the rivers.

The current water level of the Swarnrekha river stands at 116.56 meters at the Mango Bridge site, well below its danger level of 121.50 meters.
