Jamshedpur Gears Up for Flood Preparedness

District administration outlines comprehensive disaster response strategies

Jamshedpur’s district administration, led by DM Ananya Mittal, has initiated robust flood preparedness measures for areas prone to waterlogging near the Swarnarekha and Kharkai rivers.

JAMSHEDPUR – Ananya Mittal, the District Magistrate, presided over a critical meeting that aimed to develop comprehensive flood preparedness and response strategies for the flood-prone areas of Jamshedpur.

Incident Command Centers will be established in vulnerable Panchayat and Municipal Council areas.

Helpline numbers for emergency assistance were to be advertised by officials.

The administration will guarantee the distribution of essential medications, regular cleanliness, and ration supplies.

Alternative electricity sources and potable water tankers will be arranged.

There is a directive that emergency service departments must maintain a 24/7 alert status with essential supplies.

Mittal underscored the necessity of enhanced collaboration among administrative teams, local representatives, NDRF, and civil society.

To prevent the spread of infectious diseases, routine cleansing, bleaching, and DDT spraying will be implemented.

Traditional and social media announcements will be implemented to expedite the dissemination of alerts.

The monitoring of water levels in the Kharkai and Swarnarekha rivers is the responsibility of mechanical departments.

Mandatory coordination with the architects of Chandil Dam and Mayurbhanj Dam is required with respect to water release.

Garbage removal procedures will be implemented at the Swarnarekha Barrage.

Representatives of the NDRF and a variety of district officials attended the meeting.

The objective of these measures is to improve Jamshedpur’s ability to effectively address prospective flood disasters.
