SP Orders Immediate Action after Probe Finds Kapali OP Staff’s Role Suspect
Key Points:
- Kapali OP in-charge Thiranjan Kumar among three suspended
- Incident occurred on June 15 in Kandarbeda Rehabilitation Colony
- SDPO Chandil conducted primary inquiry before suspension order
SERAIKELA — Three police personnel, including the officer in charge of the Kapali outpost, were suspended with immediate effect on Monday after a preliminary inquiry found their conduct suspect in an alleged violence case involving a tribal woman from Chandil police station area in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
The case pertains to an incident reported on June 15, 2026, at Kandarbeda Rehabilitation Colony under Chandil police station limits. A tribal young woman was allegedly subjected to violence and use of force, according to the press release issued by the Superintendent of Police’s office.
The SP assigned the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Chandil subdivision, to conduct the inquiry into the incident. The SDPO submitted a preliminary report, which identified the roles of three personnel as prima facie suspicious.
On the basis of that inquiry report, the SP ordered the immediate suspension of Kapali OP in-charge Thiranjan Kumar, constable Mohammad Mukelesh Rahman, who was also posted at the Kapali outpost, and woman constable Kanchan. Meanwhile, departmental disciplinary proceedings have been initiated separately against all three.
The Kapali OP falls under the jurisdiction of the Chandil police station, which oversees a large rural area with a substantial tribal population. The district of Seraikela-Kharsawan has a significant Scheduled Tribe population, accounting for over 35 per cent of its total population of about 10.65 lakh as per the 2011 Census.
Cases of alleged police misconduct involving tribal communities have drawn sharp attention in Jharkhand, where protections under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act are frequently invoked. However, in this particular case, the exact nature of the charges and the applicable provisions of law were not specified in the SP office’s press release.
The suspension of an outpost in-charge is considered a significant disciplinary action within the police department. The development caused considerable unease within police circles in the district. The matter is under further departmental inquiry.
