NML Hosts Cutting-Edge Mineral Processing Training for SAIL

JAMSHEDPUR – A specialized four-day training program on advanced mineral processing techniques has been launched by the National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) for executive trainees from Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).

Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, the Director of CSIR-NML, emphasized the significance of the program in fostering innovation and enhancing quality in industrial and environmental sectors.
"This initiative is really important for the adoption of new technologies that will greatly enhance recovery and sustainability in India’s mineral sector," Dr. Chowdhury commented.
S. Sivaprasad, Head of Human Resources, spoke positively about the potential for new collaborations that could emerge from the training.
"This program has the potential to ignite groundbreaking technological advancements by fostering collaborations between research institutions and industry," Sivaprasad expressed.
Shobhana De, the Head of the Mineral Processing Department, highlighted the important connection between scientific research and its practical applications in industry.
"Our aim is to make sure that advancements in the lab seamlessly transition into practical applications in the industrial sector," De explained.
The program, led by Ranjit Kumar Singh, takes place from July 23 to July 26. It includes daily lectures by NML scientists and hands-on demonstrations at the laboratory’s pilot plant.
"Participants will acquire a solid understanding of the theoretical concepts and hands-on skills necessary to tackle the demands of contemporary mineral processing," Singh pointed out.
A group of seasoned scientists from the Mineral Processing Department, including Manoj Kumar Mohanta and Rajendra Kumar Rath, have made substantial contributions to the program’s development.
With the mineral sector under pressure to be more efficient and sustainable, this training initiative will be vital in preparing SAIL’s future leaders with the skills and knowledge they need.
