New Leprosy Colony Brings Hope to Affected Residents
CM to Inaugurate State-of-the-Art Housing Complex in Ranchi
Jharkhand government’s initiative provides dignified living spaces for 250 leprosy-affected families in a peaceful Dhurva locality.
RANCHI – A landmark moment for leprosy-affected individuals in Ranchi is set to unfold as Chief Minister Hemant Soren prepares to inaugurate a specially designed housing complex.
The Leprosy Colony, constructed by JUIDCO in Mudma, Dhurva, represents a significant step towards improving the lives of those affected by leprosy.
Ranchi Municipal Corporation has already allotted 250 out of 256 flats through a lottery system, ensuring fair distribution.
During the ceremony, CM Soren will symbolically hand over keys to 10 beneficiaries, marking the beginning of a new chapter for residents.
"This project aims to elevate the living standards of leprosy-affected individuals," stated Arwa Rajkamal, Secretary of the state urban development department.
The colony, built on 5.5 acres, consists of seven blocks of two-storied buildings, constructed at a cost of Rs 35 crore.
Each flat, valued at approximately Rs 12 lakhs, is being provided to beneficiaries free of cost under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
The well-designed flats feature a bedroom, living area, common toilet, bathroom, and a spacious balcony.
High-quality amenities, including branded fans, tube lights, and taps, have been installed to ensure comfortable living.
The complex boasts modern infrastructure with internal roads, solar street lighting, boundary walls, and parking facilities.
Provision for drinking water supply and rainwater harvesting underscores the project’s focus on sustainability.
Green spaces, including parks and lawns, have been incorporated to promote a clean and healthy environment.
Local MLAs, MPs, and officials from leprosy-affected welfare organizations are expected to attend the inauguration.
Plans are underway for voluntary organizations to establish a hospital within the colony, further enhancing residents’ quality of life.
This initiative stands as a testament to the state government’s commitment to inclusive development and social welfare.
