NITI Aayog’s V.K. Saraswat Inaugurates Lithium Recycling at CSIR-NML

Dr. V.K. Saraswat from NITI Aayog inaugurates the new Lithium Battery Recycling Plant at CSIR-NML, marking a significant step in sustainable resource management and technology.

JAMSHEDPUR – Dr. V.K. Saraswat’s inaugural visit to CSIR-NML highlighted a significant leap in sustainable technology with the opening of the Lithium Battery Recycling Plant.

The event, held at the Nildih Campus, saw key figures like R. Saravanabhavan, Dr. N.C. Murmu, and others, affirming their commitment to resource-efficient technologies.

Dr. Saraswat emphasized the need for upscaling the plant to boost self-reliance in battery manufacturing, in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.

His interactions with Young Scientists and Senior Members at CSIR-NML showcased his appreciation for their work in fields like urban mining and lithium-ion recycling.

As the Task Force Chairman on Red Mud Recycling, Dr. Saraswat reviewed critical operations at the institute, stressing the importance of rare earth extraction.

He acknowledged the pivotal role of scientists in reducing import dependency by focusing on critical minerals, metals, and materials.

The Lithium Battery Recycling Plant is set to enhance India’s stance on environmentally responsible technologies.

This initiative mirrors a joint effort towards a more sustainable and self-reliant future in critical metal and material management.

Dr. Saraswat’s visit and encouragement reinforced CSIR-NML’s role in aligning with national goals and global sustainability standards.
