Deputy Commissioner Issues Notice Following High Court Order On PIL

Building owners face legal action if commercial activities continue in designated parking areas.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has directed all landowners and builders to ensure parking facilities in basements and ground floors of buildings within its jurisdiction.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar issued a public notice in response to a Jharkhand High Court order on PIL 2078/2018.

"All commercial activities on basement and ground floors must cease immediately, with these spaces converted back to parking facilities," Kumar stated in the notice.

The directive mandates strict adherence to approved building plans, emphasizing the exclusive use of these areas for vehicle parking.

Owners found in violation face legal consequences under the Jharkhand Municipality Act 2011 and Jharkhand Building By-laws 2016.

"This move aims to address the growing parking issues in Jamshedpur and ensure compliance with building regulations," a JNAC spokesperson explained.

The notice underscores the High Court’s prohibition of any commercial activities on basement and ground floors of affected buildings.

Local residents have expressed mixed reactions, with some welcoming the move to ease parking congestion.

"While necessary, this could significantly impact small businesses operating from these spaces," noted a local business association representative.

JNAC officials are preparing for potential inspections to ensure compliance with the new directive.

The committee has urged property owners to voluntarily comply to avoid punitive measures and legal complications.
