Power Cuts Disrupt Jamshedpur Court Proceedings

Afternoon Sessions and Electricity Issues Trouble Litigants and Lawyers

Recent changes in court timings and frequent power outages cause difficulties for legal proceedings at the District Civil Court complex.

JAMSHEDPUR – The District Civil Court complex in Jamshedpur is facing operational challenges due to afternoon court sessions and frequent power cuts, affecting litigants and lawyers alike.

For the past three days, power outages have disrupted court proceedings, forcing the judiciary to use mobile lights.

Advocate Sudhir Kumar Pappu highlighted the issues, stating, "The power cuts have been causing significant difficulties. On Wednesday, a witness from Durgapur couldn’t provide testimony due to the outage."

Timing Controversy

Pappu questioned the court’s afternoon schedule, noting, "As per the High Court’s order, courts in all 23 districts operate in the morning. Why is Jamshedpur Court in East Singhbhum an exception?"

He attributed this decision to the district court, citing the absence of a statutory body for the Bar Association.

"At least the lawyers should have been consulted if the working hours had to be changed to daytime," Pappu argued.

Impact on Legal Profession

The change in court timings, implemented on Monday, coincided with the start of power cuts.

Pappu emphasized, "Lawyers earn their fees only when they work on litigants’ cases. If a litigant’s work is affected, it naturally impacts the legal profession."

Call for Solutions

Advocate Pappu suggested installing a generator set to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the court building.

He proposed, "If power cuts are due to maintenance, the work could be done after court hours."

Many lawyers affected by the power cuts support Pappu’s concerns and calls for action.
