Jamshedpur Celebrates Olympic Day with Diverse Competitions
Local schools showcase talent in sports, quiz, and art events across the city
East Singhbhum’s District Sports unit organized a multi-event celebration for International Olympic Day 2024, featuring handball, volleyball, quiz, and drawing contests.
JAMSHEDPUR – The city marked International Olympic Day 2024 with a series of engaging competitions, blending sports and academics to honor the Olympic spirit.
St. Mary’s teams dominated the handball tournament held at Ramdas Bhatta Bistupur’s Handball Day Boarding Center, clinching victories in both boys’ and girls’ categories.
"These events inspire our youth to embrace the Olympic values," remarked Sharma Kumar Shyam, Sports Coordinator and quiz master for the day.
The volleyball competition at the Day Boarding Volleyball Center saw Club Boys Young emerge victorious in the boys’ division, while Team Boarding Day Greenhouse secured the girls’ title.
People’s Academy School in New Baradwari hosted the main event, featuring quiz and drawing competitions that attracted participants from 14 local schools.
Sonari Balichela RMS claimed top honors in the quiz, followed by School High Two Plus BPM and School Harijan Bhalubasa.
In the drawing competition, Tafroz Nida, Pandey Kumari Tanisha, and Pathak Khushi secured the top three positions in the junior category.
Chatar Aman from School High Jamshedpur led the senior category, with Firoz Samreen and Kumari Sudha taking second and third places respectively.
Pandey Chandradeep, Principal of Academy People’s Baradwari New, presented awards to the winners, including trophies, medals, and certificates.
The event successfully combined Olympic themes with an anti-drug abuse campaign, promoting both sportsmanship and social awareness.
