Kalpana Murmu Soren Takes Oath After Winning Gandey By-Election
Kalpana Murmu Soren, the newly elected MLA from Gandey, took her oath on Monday.
Kalpana Murmu Soren emerged victorious in the Gandey by-election, marking her first term as an MLA.
RANCHI – Kalpana Murmu Soren, the newly elected MLA from Gandey, officially joined the Legislative Assembly on Monday after winning the by-election.
JMM candidate Kalpana Murmu Soren triumphed in the Gandey by-election, securing her position as an MLA for the first time.
Assembly Speaker Rabindranath Mahato administered the oath of office and secrecy to her.
During the swearing-in ceremony, notable ministers from JMM, Congress, and RJD, including Chief Minister Champai Soren, were in attendance.
Kalpana Soren defeated BJP candidate Dilip Verma by a margin of 26,000 votes.
Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed previously held the Gandey seat, having been elected in the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections as a member of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha after switching from the Congress.
Following the ED summons to Hemant Soren, Dr. Sarfaraz resigned from his legislative position on December 31, 2023, leaving the seat vacant.
Kalpana Soren stepped into the political arena to contest this vacant seat.
Prior to this, JMM had sent Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed to the Rajya Sabha.
Kalpana Soren has risen to prominence in Jharkhand politics, especially after former Chief Minister Hemant Soren was jailed in connection with an ED case on January 31.
Another recent resignation came from Hazaribagh MLA Manish Jaiswal, who has been elected as an MP and resigned to take up his new role.
