Tata Steel’s Noamundi Iron Mine Marks 100 Years with Series of Commemorative Events

Noamundi Iron Mine of Tata Steel is celebrating the beginning of its centenary year since the inception of mining operations at the site.

NOAMUNDI – Noamundi Iron Mine of Tata Steel is celebrating the beginning of its centenary year since the inception of mining operations at the site.

To commemorate this milestone, a logo launch event was organized today at Noamundi.

The Chief Guest for the event was D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Raw Materials, Tata Steel.

Other dignitaries present included Atul Kumar Bhatnagar, General Manager, OMQ Division, and Sanjay Das, Secretary, Noamundi Mazdoor Union, along with employees of Ore Mines and Quarries Division of Tata Steel.

During the occasion, D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Raw Materials, Tata Steel, stated that Noamundi Iron Mine has been a vital part of Tata Steel’s operations for the past century and highlighted the mine’s commitment to sustainable mining practices.

In addition to the logo launch, the Second Summer Flower Show was organized at Noamundi, showcasing over 22 varieties of summer flowers.

A Miyawaki Plantation was also carried out to mark the occasion.

Throughout the year, Noamundi Iron Mine will host a series of events to commemorate the centenary, including cultural programs, employee recognition initiatives, and community engagement activities.

Noamundi Iron Mine, part of the Ore Mines and Quarries Division of Tata Steel, has been providing high-quality iron ore for 100 years and is known for its sustainable mining practices and community engagement.

In 2017, Noamundi became the country’s first iron-ore mine to set up a solar plant to reduce its carbon footprint.

The 3 MW solar plant is spread over 19 acres.

On February 5, 2021, Tata Steel deployed the first batch of 22 women operators of heavy earth-moving machinery at Noamundi, enhancing gender diversity at the workplace under the ‘Tejaswini 2.0’ initiative.

Noamundi also hosts events like Run-a-thon to promote fitness and sustainability among its stakeholders and the community.

The mine has taken several strides to improve biodiversity through plantation and rain harvesting projects.
