GM Pravin Thipsay Graces Jamshedpur’s Specially Abled Chess Event

Renowned Grandmaster attends opening of Tata Steel’s 4th All India tournament

Jamshedpur welcomes chess legend Pravin Thipsay for the inauguration of a national-level chess competition for specially abled players.

JAMSHEDPUR – Indian Chess Grandmaster (GM) Pravin Thipsay arrived in the city to attend the opening ceremony of the Tata Steel 4th All India Specially Abled Chess Tournament 2024.

The event, which began on June 24 at JRD Tata Sports Complex, saw Thipsay’s presence as a distinguished guest.

"It’s an honor to have GM Thipsay support this inclusive chess initiative," stated Tiwari Kumar Narendra, Secretary of East Singhbhum District Chess Association.

Thipsay was warmly received by local chess officials and Tata Steel representatives upon his arrival.

Imam Hasan, Tata Steel Sports Department Manager, presented a bouquet to the Grandmaster in recognition of his contributions to chess.

Notable attendees included Bhuiyan Kumar Jayant, Prasad Kumar Chandan, Singh Kumar Anup, Kumar Awadhesh, Lal Chiranji, and Sharma K.P.

Thipsay holds the distinction of being the first Indian to achieve a Grandmaster Norm and win the Commonwealth Chess Championship.

His presence adds prestige to the tournament, which aims to promote chess among specially abled individuals.

The event highlights Jamshedpur’s commitment to inclusive sports and chess development.

Thipsay’s visit is expected to inspire participants and local chess enthusiasts alike.
