Tata Steel Teams Face Opposition Over Burmamines Durga Puja Ground Barricading
Residents and Puja Committee Halt Tata Steel’s Plan to Enclose Durga Puja Ground in Jamshedpur
Efforts to enclose the Durga Puja ground in Burmamines faced strong resistance from local residents and the puja committee.
JAMSHEDPUR – Teams from Tata Steel Land Department and Tata Steel UISL (formerly Jusco) arrived at Burmamines Durga Puja ground to enclose the area.
The initiative was met with strong opposition from colony residents and the Durga Puja Committee members.
As a result, the company team had to leave without completing their task.
The ground, which hosts two Durga Pujas and an annual fair, has been cordoned off.
On Friday, Tata Steel’s team started work to enclose the ground and install a gate.
Upon hearing this, members of the Durga Puja Committee arrived and stopped the work.
They argued that the area gets crowded during Durga Puja, necessitating at least five gates for proper access.
BJP leader Rambabu Tiwari also arrived at the scene to mediate the situation.
He immediately contacted officials from Tata Steel UISL to discuss the issue.
It was agreed that further talks would be held on Monday to reach a decision.
Following this agreement, the company team left the site.
The locals said that the local community has concerns over access and space during significant cultural events.
Negotiations are expected to continue to find a mutually agreeable solution.
