Chhau Dance and Fair Conclude in Chakradharpur Silphodi Village, Showcase Local Culture

Cultural Event Organized by Chhau Dance Committee Highlights Mythological Stories and Traditional Art Forms

A two-day Chhau dance cum fair organized by the Chhau Dance Committee in Silphodi village of Silphodi panchayat, Chakradharpur block, concluded on Thursday, celebrating local culture and heritage.

CHAKRADHARPUR – The Chhau Dance Committee organized a vibrant two-day Chhau dance and fair in Silphodi village, culminating in a grand closing ceremony on Thursday.

People’s Welfare Association Secretary and social worker Dr. Vijay Singh Gagrai attended as the chief guest, while social worker Krishna Mukhi was the special guest.

Dr. Gagrai inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon, marking the start of the cultural festivities.

The event featured captivating Chhau dance performances by local artists, who presented mythological stories such as Ganesh Vandana, Sita Haran, Ram Balram, Krishnaleela, and Abhimanyu Vadh.

Addressing the audience, Dr. Gagrai emphasized the importance of Chhau dance as a cultural identity and its global appreciation.

He called for collective efforts to preserve this cultural heritage and announced plans to establish a Chhau Art Center in Chakradharpur.

This center will provide a platform for rural artists to refine and showcase their talents to the world.

The fair also included various food and toy stalls, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Local contributors like Munda Loknath Samad, Novel Bansingh Balram Bhumij, Rajkumar Bhumij, and others played a significant role in the event’s success.

The celebration drew a large crowd of villagers, demonstrating strong community support for preserving local traditions.

Dr. Gagrai’s commitment to cultural preservation was well-received, and his plans for the Chhau Art Center were met with enthusiasm.

The event highlighted the rich cultural tapestry of the region and the importance of maintaining traditional art forms.
