Film and Literature Communities Gather to Honor Iconic Director Satyajit Ray

Karim City College recently held a significant event to celebrate the birth anniversary of renowned Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray, showcasing a blend of cinema and literature discussions.

JAMSHEDPUR – A tribute event to honor legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray took place at Karim City College, featuring prominent figures from the film and literary sectors.

The event, held in the college’s auditorium, was a collaboration between its Mass Communication Department and several cultural organizations, including the New Delhi Film Foundation.

Dr. Mohammad Reyaz, the principal of Karim City College, initiated the festivities by welcoming the distinguished guests with traditional gifts.

Chandan Pandey, a respected writer, graced the event as the chief guest, and Dr. Ashok Kumar Jha, principal of LBSM College, chaired the session.

The event highlighted the profound connection between Ray and Jharkhand, noting that the novelist Bibhuti Bhushan Bandopadhyay, whose work inspired Ray’s film "Pather Panchali," hailed from the region.

A key feature of the celebration was the launch of the book "Satyajit Rai’s Apoorva Sansar," which includes contributions from 41 writers, 16 of whom are from Jamshedpur.

The gathering also enjoyed an online presentation on Ray’s legacy by Ashish Kumar Singh of the New Delhi Film Foundation, emphasizing Ray’s influence on portraying Indian culture through cinema.

The event concluded with appreciative remarks from Kshama Tripathi, highlighting the successful integration of film and literature in celebrating Ray’s illustrious career.
