President Droupadi Murmu awarded Padma Shri honors to Purnima Mahato and Chami Murmu for their exceptional contributions in their respective fields.

JAMSHEDPUR – President Droupadi Murmu awarded Padma Shri honors to Purnima Mahato and Chami Murmu for their exceptional contributions in their respective fields.

Chami Murmu, known for her environmental efforts as "Lady Tarzan," was recognized for planting over 30 lakh trees, significantly impacting ecological preservation.

Purnima Mahato, a distinguished archery coach from Jamshedpur, has been instrumental in shaping the careers of elite archers, contributing greatly to the sport.

Her coaching career began in 2000 at Tata Archery Academy, where she has since nurtured numerous national and international archery talents.

Mahato’s contributions to archery were formally recognized in 2013 when she received the Dronacharya Award from the Government of India.

She has led her archers to many successes, including six gold medals at the 1994 National Games in Pune, underlining her prowess both as an athlete and mentor.

Over the years, Mahato has been acknowledged not just with the Dronacharya Award, but also received the Best Coach Award from FICCI in 2011.

Both Purnima Mahato and Chami Murmu bring honor to Jharkhand with their Padma Shri awards, celebrated for their dedication and achievements in their fields.
