Financial distress hits outsourced staff at Kolhan University over salary delays

Over 100 outsourced workers at Kolhan University are experiencing financial difficulties due to a four-month delay in salary payments, affecting their ability to meet basic living expenses and contributing to a growing concern for their welfare.

JAMSHEDPUR – The plight of over 100 outsourced workers, including computer operators and security guards at Kolhan University, has come to light as they face severe financial strain following a delay in receiving their salaries for the past four months.

Initially contracted through an agency, the workers’ financial stability has been compromised after their contracts expired in December, leaving them without a source of income.

Negotiations between the university administration, the employees, and the outsourcing agency have yet to yield any results, with the agency citing a lack of funds from the university for the months of December and January as the primary issue.

The absence of a permanent Vice Chancellor at the university has further complicated the situation, as approval for fund disbursement is contingent upon a syndicate meeting, delaying the resolution of the salary crisis.

Many of the affected employees are struggling to afford basic necessities, with some unable to pay for their children’s school fees, underscoring the urgent need for a solution.

Efforts are being made to address the situation, with plans to seek guidance from Raj Bhavan on the outstanding payments and to convene a syndicate meeting after April 15 to discuss the salary disbursements.

As the workers grapple with financial uncertainty, the urgency for decisive action to ensure their well-being and secure their rightful earnings is paramount, highlighting a critical challenge for the university’s administration.
