Sitaramdera PS In-charge Line Attached for Inaction on Extortion Complaint
Neglect in extortion complaint investigation leads to police officer’s line attachment
The City SP Mukesh Lunayet has taken action against Sitaramdera Police Station In-charge for not having investigated the complaint of extortion demand lodged by businessman Ravi Agrawal, whose wife was killed Friday night on NH33 under Chandil PS jurisdiction.
JAMSHEDPUR – The City SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat has conducted an investigation into the handling of an extortion complaint filed by Ravi Aggarwal a month prior to the murder of Jyoti Agrawal.
The investigation by the City SP revealed that Bhushan Kumar, the in-charge at Sitaramdera police station, failed to take proper action on Aggarwal’s extortion complaint.
Following the discovery of negligence, Bhushan Kumar has been line attached, meaning he would be divested of his powers of field duty for the time being.
The individual line-attached can be assigned office duties at headquarters or police lines during their attachment. Such line-attachment or line-closure is helpful in the event that an inquiry is made since it guarantees his prompt availability for inquiries and puts an end to his area of influence.
It may be added here that the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce had demanded a thorough investigation into the matter, highlighting the need for accountability and justice.
Ravi Aggarwal had reported an extortion demand to the police, which now emerges as a pivotal detail in the backdrop of his wife’s tragic murder.
Jyoti Aggarwal’s murder has not only created a sensation in the city, but also exposed lapses in the police’s response to crime reporting.
The case has garnered significant attention, with the community and business sector calling for a comprehensive review of police procedures and responsiveness.
Meanwhile, the Chandil police are on the verge of cracking the murder case of Jyoti Agrawal and are expected to announce some arrests too soon.
Sources said that the action taken against the station in-charge is seen as a step towards addressing concerns over police efficiency and the safety of citizens in Jamshedpur.
