BJP MP Bidyut Baran Mahato refutes Congress claims of frozen accounts
Jamshedpur MP says Congress has multiple accounts, only Rs 115 crore attached by IT Dept due to outstanding taxes
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Bidyut Baran Mahato has launched a strong counterattack against the Congress Party’s allegations of frozen bank accounts, stating that no bank account of Congress has been frozen and that the party is creating a “bundle of lies” to mislead the public in view of their “certain defeat” in the Lok Sabha elections.
JAMSHEDPUR – Addressing a press conference at the district BJP office in Sakchi on Sunday, Mahato said, “Congress has many bank accounts and due to non-payment of outstanding taxes, only three-four of them have been attached by the Income Tax Department. These accounts are not frozen.”
Mahato explained that under provision 13A of the Income Tax Act, political parties get exemption in income tax, and the case in question pertains to the financial year 2017-18, for which Congress did not pay the tax by the due date and also took anonymous donations of Rs 14 lakh in cash, resulting in a return demand of Rs 105 crore with penalty.
The MP criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for claiming that the party did not have money to book train tickets after the accounts were frozen, while he is seen traveling by chartered plane every day, and demanded a technical answer instead of a political one on the issue.
Congress’s history of scams
BJP state minister and Jamshedpur Lok Sabha convenor Nandji Prasad called Congress a “scammer,” alleging that the party has committed corruption worth crores in various scams, including the coal scam (Rs 1.8 lakh crore), 2G spectrum (Rs 1.76 lakh crore), chopper scam (Rs 3,600 crore), Commonwealth Games scam (Rs 70,000 crore), and National Herald (Rs 5,000 crore).
Income tax rules apply to all
Prasad emphasized that every citizen and institution in India must follow all income tax rules, and it is ridiculous for Congress leaders to claim they do not have money for traveling by train or printing posters after committing such huge scams.
